Petrčane is situated between two cities of long tradition and glorious past, Zadar and Nin. Thanks to its favourable geographic position between two peninsulas, its mild climate, fertile land and springs of water, Petrčane has been a pleasant area to live in from the earliest times.

The first traces of life go far to prehistory. In Roman times, Petrčane belonged to Zadar ager (Iader) and it used to present the border area towards Nin ager (Aenona)
